- Checked and OK: a strong 4.8-star Google rating; the right Google category; a secure (HTTPS) website; the homepage title already names the city.
Findings: Google and Maps profile
| Finding | Impact | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Google shows two listings for this business: the main one and a second listing with a slightly different name and only a handful of reviews. Plain English: a duplicate splits your reviews and can confuse Google about which listing to show, so it should be merged into the main one. | Medium | Issue |
| 28 Google reviews, far fewer than the nearby competitors Google shows first. Plain English: review count is a big reason people pick one company over another, and competitors have several times more. | High priority | Issue |
| 4.8-star Google rating. Plain English: customers are happy, so the reputation is a strong starting point. | — | OK |
| Listed in the right Google category (air conditioning contractor). Plain English: Google knows what kind of business this is. | — | OK |
Findings: Website
| Finding | Impact | Status |
|---|---|---|
| The homepage isn't mobile-friendly (no mobile layout setting). Plain English: the site doesn't fit phone screens, and most local searches happen on phones. | High priority | Issue |
| No online booking, quote form or chat on the homepage. Plain English: a visitor who can't reach you by phone has no way to leave their details, so the lead is lost. | High priority | Issue |
| The homepage uses an older design without a clear call or quote button near the top. Plain English: the site looks out of date, which makes a good company look less trustworthy than competitors. | High priority | Issue |
| No business schema (the code block that describes a local business). Plain English: a small block of code would help Google confirm who you are, where you work and when you're open. | Medium | Issue |
| The search-result description (meta description) is just a list of keywords. Plain English: this is the text people read under your name in Google, and right now it doesn't tell them what you do or why to call. | Medium | Issue |
| No tap-to-call phone link on the homepage. Plain English: mobile visitors can't call you with one tap. | Low | Issue |
| Secure connection (HTTPS). Plain English: the site is safe to visit. | — | OK |
| The homepage title includes the city. Plain English: Google can see where you're located (the title still doesn't say what service you offer). | — | OK |
Competitor comparison
How Example Company stacks up against its competitors
Business type: heating and air conditioning contractor
How we picked the competitors: a Google Maps search for "air conditioning contractor" centred on Example Company's own Google listing. We took the first 5 businesses shown, skipping ads and listings with fewer than 5 reviews. Checked: October 25, 2026.

Not checked in this review (unknown for every business): Google photos, Google posts, full category list, and whether prices are shown on the site. "No" for booking or chat means none showed on the homepage when we checked.
What this tells us
- Every competitor lets customers book online. Example Company doesn't. All five take bookings from their website or from Google's "Book online" button. A homeowner with a broken AC can book a competitor in a minute, but has to call Example Company during business hours.
- The website isn't built for phones. All five competitors have mobile-friendly sites. Example Company's site isn't, so anyone visiting on a phone has to pinch and zoom.
- Customers like Example Company, but there aren't many reviews yet. Its 4.8 rating is as good as Competitor 3's, but 28 reviews looks small next to 113 to 2,354.
- It's hard to find on the map. Example Company came up 13th for "air conditioning contractor" even though the search was centred on its own location. All five competitors came up first.
- Where Example Company wins: its rating holds up, and its site already uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, so the fixes start from a good reputation rather than a damaged one.
Suggested moves
- A mobile-friendly homepage with a "Book Online" or quote form and an after-hours chat or text-back option. Why it sells: it closes the one gap every nearby competitor has already closed and catches requests that come in after hours.
- Ask every customer for a Google review with a short link or QR card, and tidy up the Google listing. (We found a second listing for the same business; it should be merged.) Why it sells: the rating is already strong, so more reviews quickly make the business look as established as it really is.
- Rewrite the homepage title and description to say what the business does and where. Right now the description is just a string of keywords. Why it sells: this helps Google and searchers see a local heating and air company, which is how it climbs from #13 toward the top 3.
Top recommended fixes (in priority order)
| # | Fix | Impact | Time to results |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Make the homepage mobile-friendly (a layout that fits phone screens). | High priority | 1-3 months |
| 2 | Add a chat assistant plus a short quote or booking form so after-hours visitors can leave a request. | High priority | Days (live as soon as it's installed) |
| 3 | Start a simple review-request routine: a ready-made text or email and a QR card the business sends after each job. | High priority | 1-3 months |
| 4 | Refresh the homepage with a modern layout, a clear call or quote button near the top, and trust signals like reviews and years in business. | High priority | 1-3 months |
| 5 | Ask Google to merge the duplicate listing into the main one. | Medium | Varies; depends on Google's review |
| 6 | Rewrite the homepage title and description to say what the business does and where, in plain words instead of a keyword list. | Medium | 2-4 weeks (more clicks first, then rank) |
| 7 | Add business schema with the name, phone, hours and service area matching the Google listing. | Medium | 2-8 weeks |
| 8 | Add a tap-to-call phone link. | Low | Immediate for visitors |
